We had our first official weekend of the summer where we went out and did something as a family. And we had a great time, I must add! Our gym (and my second home I feel like...not a bad thing), HQ Fitness, held a "family day" and open house all day long on Saturday that stretched into Saturday night. The kids and myself went to the gym around ten am for my normal workout and then walked around outside afterwards. They had lots of arts & crafts booths set up and even a petting zoo with llamas, ducks, pot bellied pigs, guinea pigs, lambs, and rabbits. We stayed just a few minutes before heading home for lunch and nap time.
When Waylon got off work, we went back up to HQ for more walking around but the biggest hit was the water slide. I was so impressed with Jon Walker for taking part in the activities. Normally, he is a little shy and taken back by a.) water and b.) older kids. I just knew with the two mixed, there was no way he would partake. Boy, did he prove me wrong! He slid and slid all afternoon...keeping right up with all the big boys and girls.
The highlight of the evening was our friends, Inner 61, was the headliner band for the event. It has been quite a while since I've heard them play as a band and I must say they were phenomenal! We filled up on crawfish that were delicious...not too spicy but just right and then sat back and listened to the band. Well, most of us sat back...Jon Walker once again came out of his shell. He was front and center of the stage the entire time dancing his little heart out. The drummer threw his drum sticks out at some point and JW caught one of them. After the show the guys all signed it for him...he thought he was so cool. It was a fun night full of fun, food, and music!
The kids slept like logs after such a busy day and I had to wake them up for our family photo shoot Sunday morning. I cannot wait to see the proofs as this was our first formal family picture we have taken...yes, I am a little behind on some things. Better late than never though! We had lots of formal shots and candid shots taken by a lake and a barn so I am hoping for some great framers. And since we were out at a barn, we couldn't pass up Jon Walker's love for tractors. He had his own shoot with his John Deere tricycle and then even took some photos sitting on the tire of a real John Deere tractor. I have never seen so much joy in that kid's face!
