Maggie, Kennedy, and I traveled to Houston, Texas last weekend for a well overdue trip to see my cousin Megan and her family. It was Kennedy's first flight and I was a little worried how she would do, but she boarded and flew like a pro. She was so cute with her little dvd player all set up. You would have thought she'd flown a thousand times. And of course, she was little Miss Social Director as she was standing to deboard the plane. She told one lady how pretty her toe nails were and played with one lady's buttons on her shirt sleeve. There was one man that she just simply looked way up high at him and said "Hey, I'm Kenneneee." (that's how she says her name)
We quickly made the short drive out to Katy and started the weekend off! First, we headed to Megan's house to see my great aunt Rosemary since she was there keeping Abby and Jackson. We had a nice visit and let the girls get re-aquainted after not seeing each other in a little over a year. They loved each other from the first minute. We all know Kennedy's slight obsession with shoes...well, she quickly wore off on Abby. They clanked around in high heels for a while and carried their purses and makeup with them everywhere. It was too cute!
We headed to grab some lunch and stayed at the pool most of the afternoon. The pool was AMAZING. I know we are only two states away, but we just don't have pools like that in Mississippi. They had the lap area of the pool and a regular area for leisure and fun but then they had this huge area for the tiny kids. The water started out at about 2" of water and went up to about 2'. In that area they had a splash pad where the water shot out of the ground and also a tall mushroom that spilled water out of the top creating a waterfall. For the big kids, they had a full size water slide area. You all may not be impressed, but Maggie and I were. I expect that from a water park, not your neighborhood pool!
Sunday was an interesting day as we spent the entire day at the Downtown Aquarium in Houston. It was "shark weekend" and that apparently is a big deal. So much of a deal, that we stood in line for 2 hours to ride the train that takes you to the shark exhibit. Neat thought, but not so sure about the actual execution. We saw other exhibits as well so it was a fun time. The sea turtles were my favorite.Sunday night was filled with more visiting with the family and then on to eat real "Tex Mex". It was yummy!
Monday was a pretty laid back day with lots of shopping. It was nice to be away and doing something different but not to jam pack a weekend full of things to do. I think it was a nice mix of out and about along with just relaxing and having fun watching the kiddos play like little girls do. We will NOT let another year go by without doing this again...already planning the next visit because you just can't beat a $100 plane ticket!
